This article is about one man’s bout with how to cure plantar fasciitis. If you are looking for a simple, yet effective, treatment for back heel pain, read this article. Please be aware, I am not a podiatrist. I am not a doctor of any kind. In fact, I have nothing to do with the medical profession except when it comes to needing help for my own ailments. But even then, I am reluctant to visit a doctor because I found that many are just looking for a way to treat symptoms rather than solve the problem that causes the symptoms. In this case, I never did make it to a doctor’s office because I was able to find a solution to my problem through totally natural means. So I do have a story to tell about a natural treatment for plantar fasciitis, and, in particular, how you, too, may be able to deal with your own foot and heel pain.Disclaimer: The information provided here is a compilation of what I found by doing my own research. There is no guarantee that if you do what I did you will experience the same relief from plantar fasciitis heel pain. Also, while I did write this with the intent of helping those with the same type of foot and heel pain that I had, there are links to products that helped me, and by buying those products through the links provided, I do get a small amount of financial compensation.CONTENTS AT A GLANCE Man’s Best Friend? Its job is to connect the heel bone with the toe bones as it supports the arch.Fasciitis is an inflammation of the fascia. When there is inflammation, there is usually pain and discomfort, which is why when one has plantar fasciitis, heel pain is common.Of course, there are different reasons for this inflammation of the fascia tissue to happen. Many athletes experience plantar fasciitis due to overextending the ligament.Older individuals (Hello!) may develop plantar fasciitis just because stuff is getting older, our bodies require more maintenance than in the “old days” and we have not taken steps to prevent it. Flip Flop Disease.. aka Plantar Fasciitis As I combed the Internet looking for what was causing my heel pain, I came across this interesting tid-bit. Mistreating our feet by just wearing the wrong type of footwear (flip flops in particular) can cause foot and lower extremity problems, not just plantar fasciitis. Personally, I have had flip flops most of my life. I lived in South Florida for most of my years, and now I live in the Atlanta area, which is another place that lends itself to the comfort of poor shoe choice. And besides, I don’t think it looks “cool” when you have on shorts and black socks. My bad. I guess it was just a matter of time before my lack of footwear education would catch up with me. Photo by the author. But Wait… There Are Orthotic Flip Flops. I can still look cool! Having worn flip flop type sandals my whole life, I was ecstatic when I found out about these. They have a heel well and a strong arch support, making them a good fit for someone with my kind of problems. This is me with my Orthaheel flip flops, only the folks at Orthaheel call them Kinetic Thong Sandals. What ever they’re called, I LOVE ‘EM! Orthaheel Men’s / Women’s Kinetic Thong Sandals (9 B(M) US Women / 8 D(M) US Men, Black/Gray) Amazon Price: $69.95 (as of 04/23/2012) I have to say that it took me about 2 weeks to get totally comfortable with these flip flops. The arch is quite imposing. However, now that I have been wearing them for awhile, I am sold on how much they help keeping the heel pain at bay. If you read the customer reports at the Amazon store, you will see that there are others who have had the same thoughts.Severe Heel Pain – No Fun My story I have a friend who had been experiencing severe heel pain due to plantar fasciitis which resulted in a bone spur. I had talked with him about it because I was beginning to have some discomfort in my own heel.As he told me his tale of several years of pain and suffering, it occurred to me that I should do something before my heel pain got worse. My friend had been to podiatrists and gotten cortisone shots, and he was still having the pain. He warned me not to go on without seeking medical advice. Instead, I began to search for solutions online. I am not a fan of typical doctors who want to give you the best pill or shot to take care of the symptoms without going deeper to discover the cause. Now, I don’t know what would have happened if I had gone to a doctor, because I have not yet been there to seek relief from my heel pain problems. Perhaps the doctor would have suggested exactly what I am doing, and I may never know what he would have said, simply because I did not choose to make an appointment. Social Networking Saves The Day And we are not talking about Facebook My wife is my biggest fan and my caretaker. She worries about how I am feeling and what it takes to make me better. She is also a prayer warrior. If you ever want results for your prayers or concerns, tell them to my wife. I have never met anyone with a better track record for answered prayer. Answered prayer is not always a supernatural experience with the Almighty. And such was the case with my heel pain. She goes to a weekly Bible study, and she happened to mention my plantar fasciitis problem to her friends there. They did pray for me that day, but what happened after that is what changed the course of history for me. One of her friends approached her and began to tell my wife about her own bout with heel pain. It was pretty much my story as far as symptoms is concerned. When my honey got home, she was very excited about the new information she had gotten at the Bible study. And after our initial discussion, I was pretty pumped too. Because I was not sure which direction to head in after spending so many hours looking online for help. Now, I had a real person who had experienced real relief. (Yes, my male friend had gotten some relief too, but that was only after getting the steroid shots.)Relief From Plantar Fasciitis Heel Pain, There were a couple of very simple things that my wife’s friend told me were critical to getting relief from my heel pain symptoms. First: Don’t go barefoot or wear flip flops (or any other cheap, non-supportive shoes)Second: Start the day with some very simple and easy exercises that will loosen up the plantar fascia.Third: Use ice several times a day to reduce the swelling (I filled a water bottle and froze it – perfect shape for the bottom of a foot) Fourth: Get some good orthotic shoe inserts (not the ones from the grocery store) I followed her advice to the “T”. After hearing what she said about her bout with foot and heel pain, I went to this website: Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spur, Heel Pain. After reading practically every word, I decided that this man knew about how to treat plantar fasciitis naturally. I also read all the testimonials from those who bought orthotic inserts from him.. I bought some, too. I received the shoe inserts a few days later and set about finding some shoes that they would work in. This was not easy, since most of my shoes did not work well with them. I finally found a pair of work shoes that had been delegated to the garage to use for yard work that were a perfect fit. These orthotic inserts Along with these work shoes After wearing my new supports for a couple of days, I began to feel much better, and after a week, the heel pain had subsided substantially. The pain actually moved from my heel to my arch, but it was much less pain.Jose, My New BFF Someone Who Cares, Now that I was starting to feel some relief, I decided it was time to find shoes that would help speed up the process. Mind you, in the past, the first thing I looked for in a pair of shoes was the price tag. I knew I would be paying much more for a pair of shoes designed to help overcome foot problems.I could not help but think about the times when I met people with foot problems in the past who had to wear specially made orthotic shoes. I remember thinking how distasteful those shoes looked (OK, I thought they were ugly). I was hoping I could find a shoe that did not look like the ones I envisioned from the past.Again, some online research provided some direction and an idea about what I thought would help my problem. I had found some testimonials about Brooks Men’s Addiction Walker Walking Shoe, so I looked for a local supplier where I could go try some on.My search ended up at a place called Foot Solutions not far from my house in Alpharetta, GA. I mention this just in case you happen to live in that area. Please do yourself a favor and look up Jose at Foot Solutions. When I entered the store, I was greeted by Jose. When he heard that I was there because of the plantar fasciitis heel pain in my left foot, he simply announced that I was in good hands. About 75% of the folks who darken his door come for the same reason, to discover the cause of heel pain and find relief.Jose proceeded to spend at least an hour going over my situation by asking tons of questions. He was totally focused on me and trying to help me to get free of the heel pain. It was apparent that he knew what he was talking about, which put my mind at ease. And the fact that his goal is to help others find a treatment for plantar fasciitis also made the whole process comfortable for me.By the time we were done, I had purchased a pair of shoes made by PW Minor. My own orthotic inserts were put into those shoes (he did not try to sell me his own brand of inserts), and I was instantly convinced that they would help me, just because of how well they felt on my feet.Jose encouraged me to continue with the exercises I had begun to stretch out the plantar fascia, as well as keeping my feet totally supported at all times with the orthotic inserts, whether they were in my new PW Minor shoes or my kick-around slippers.Click Here to See the P.W.Minor Shoe Store (free shipping)I will tell you that the end of pain did not happen immediately, but it did happen. Over a period of several weeks, the pain diminished to the point that it is totally gone. There is an occasional twinge in the arch now, but the heel pain is a thing of the past. Thanks to a loving wife who was willing to mention my needs at a Bible study, some folks who were willing to share their experiences and expertise online, and a man who cared enough about his chosen calling to help people like me, I am walking without heel pain.
